God Cares

It would seem to me it should be a Tui billboard, God Cares ... but there is no yeah right! As I rode past a church the God Cares was emblazoned in enormous letters across the side of the building. It leapt out and screamed of needing a yeah right, but there was none. It did cause me to think ...
I thought about how we supposed to be the people who bring out the God colours and flavours in the world. I thought about how for many people the only experience they have of God's love is me (or another Christian).

Then I thought about the worst things that had ever been done to me. The least love I've been shown and the most contemptuous behaviour directed at me, and I realised it was done by Christians. More than that I realised that my most recent experiences of callous behaviour (within the past 3 months) were again by Christians.

Then (for just a brief moment) I thought about the history of 'the church' and how it is filled with exploitation, wars in the name of God, deplorable acts undertaken on innocent indefensible people, some of the worst atrocities in human history. And I thought does God really care? If we (the church) are a picture of the kingdom then would anyone be interested? In fact am I interested?

Why is it we (as Christians) are so bad at representing God? Is this why God went to the trouble of sending Jesus, so there was actually an example of how life and love are meant to be?

We need to be transformed, a new creation, we need a saviour (from ourselves as opposed to anyone else) ... and we're in luck!
